AUTHOR EVENT: TWO STATEN ISLAND HISTORIANS

"There is a dichotomy to history: a fluid destination that is forever fixed  in time."

Author JANET MEDORO
"OUR STATEN ISLAND"
“This book tells the story of how two, 4th generation-born native siblings visited that history: what they’ve learned and how they learned it; making it all a wonderful journey within the journey.
The author will explore the eight chapters of her book, paying particular attention to the first: for where “ETGBC is situated”, is to have a ringside seat where the written history of Staten Island began, with the arrival of the first European settlers – Dutch settlers – and the layers of life and profound events here that followed, up to this very day!

    Author PATRICIA SALMON
"STATEN ISLAND'S BREWERY BARONS":
Vast numbers of German immigrants arrived in America during the 1840’s. Their knowledge allowed for a major new industry to thrive. German lager beer soon became the favored beverage of many Americans.
"Staten Island’s Brewery Barons" features the major Staten Island brewers who perfected their brews at Stapleton, Clifton, and Manor Heights.
Patricia M. Salmon is a Curator of History retired from the Staten Island Museum. A Staten Island resident for fifty years, Ms. Salmon has authored five books about the island. She is on the Board of Directors of the Tottenville Historical Society and the Friends of the Olmsted-Beil House. Ms. Salmon is an Adjunct Professor at the College of Staten Island and at Wagner College.

FRIDAY
JAN 10

7:30 COMFORT CAT
"Delightfully negative" Comfort Cat is an NYC-based songwriter and performer, primarily accompanying herself on the 6-string guitarlele. She is frequently backed by her friend, Jason Laney, on keys and other assorted instruments, as they perform her original material, which varies widely in dynamics and spans many topics, including cats, cars, feet, blood, and glass. She identifies as pop-punk, though others have described her as anti-folk.

8:30 EVIL KIM EVIL
Evil Kim Evil carries the torch for old school punk, doing things the way they are not done. A prolific songwriter with an outsider perspective, she has been playing since the early 90's in Baltimore. Growing up there, she was known for her powerful yet controversial writing, which she performed like fiery punk rock. Setting that to music was the obvious next step. She enjoys collaborating and has played with a vast variety of musicians including members of the Stooges and Dead Kennedys, but she has always been primarily solo, keeping that vagabond outlaw spirit alive. She knows no bounds, she knows no rules, and she always keeps it real. She does all of her own recording, all live and full of soul and imperfections. She doesn't want to be polished. She wants to destroy! And you're invited to join in.

For the past decade, she has been a one man band (also known as Kim Ew or Paisley Nightmare). She plays standing on two drum pedals, banging on the guitar, shouting, whispering, sometimes kicking everything over - whatever needs to be done! Noise is made to be had, not planned for!

As a songwriter, she maintains a quiet impact. Her style is familiar, combining country traditions with 60's and 70's punk. But of course, she puts her own eccentric spin on it. She counts Cowboy Junkies among her biggest influences too. Her songs are tragicomic and gritty. There are hardly any love songs, and yet it's somehow uplifting, even soothing. And she's not afraid to veer into noise-jazz! She likes to use different implements to elicit textured sounds from the guitar.

What could happen next? Anything! This will be a half electric, half acoustic show. And it comes with art!

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR TRIBUTE OPEN MIC
You are invited to come and express thought and inspiration connected to the philosophy, the legacy, the murder, the future of this important human being. All genres.
Find out about the King family's on-going effort towards a full Congressional Hearing in regards to the enormous amount of factual evidence for a conspiracy by FBI, police and organized crime to murder MLK and frame an innocent man for the crime.
The King family filed a civil suit in 1999 to force more information into the public eye, and a Memphis jury ruled that the local, state and federal governments were liable for King's death. The full transcript of that trial
https://archive.org/details/MartinLutherKingJrWrongfulDeathTrialTranscript

"There is abundant evidence," Coretta King said after the verdict, "of a major, high-level conspiracy in the assassination of my husband." The jury found the mafia and various government agencies "were deeply involved in the assassination. … Mr. Ray was set up to take the blame."

3pm AUTHOR: JASON CIANCIOTTA "ME, YOU, AND HIM"

Bio:
Jason Cianciotta, born with an undiagnosed disorder, has been in a lifelong fight to defy the odds. Numerous fractures, skeletal deformities, surgeries, bone infections, and corrective procedures have taken their toll, and as a bilateral amputee, the fight continues. Blessed with a mind for learning, Jason holds degrees in Biology, Philosophy, School Administration, and Chemical Engineering, and has been an educator for +15 years. Affectionately known as MrC to his students, he has a unique way of inspiring, and relaying God’s Word - through math and science - to people of all ages.

Now reborn as Lazarus, his art serves as a platform to share his faith, and the moments in his life where God’s Grace has spoken profoundly to him. Lazarus lives today, through the limitless power of God’s Love, giving meaning to his suffering, and thankful for the people in his life that have helped heal him along the way.

Synopsis:
The poetry came so easy to me - it felt like it was already written. It was a spirited work where God guided my pen.

Now a synopsis?? I never intended to sit down to write the original book in the first place. It was a moment of transcendence, birth from a gift, which at once was lost - worn and weathered - but then later was found. It was waiting for me, the one who would recognize it and reclaim it, and make it new again. It came at a time in my life when I needed healing, and served as a reminder to share God’s Love through my suffering. No synopsis can qualify the impact writing this book had on me.

And so I ask of you to read this to someone you love, share your own pains, live the transformative power of empathy, and in His Image and likeness, continue to inspire and help each other heal along our collective journey to salvation.

QUAKER MEETING
All are welcome!
MEETING in 3rd room

STORE WILL BE CLOSED, and meeting will be happening back in the 3rd room.

Staten Island Meeting of Friends is an unprogrammed meeting. Traditional Quaker testimonies (e.g., that of God within or the "inner light," peace, and simplicity) are held dear, but there is no dogma and no professional clergy.

Meeting for Worship is not necessarily completely silent. Participants may be moved by the spirit to respectfully share vocal ministry. That includes you, even when it’s your first meeting; but please note that vocal ministry is not a sermon nor a debate, nor is it idle chatter. It’s only the concise expression of “that of God within.” It is customary for an individual to speak no more than once during a single Meeting for Worship.

For more info: Please see https://statenislandquakers.org/ or call or text the clerk at 917-617-4207 or email t.lochwyn (at) gmail.com

S.I. OUTLOUD:
ORSON WELLES'
"MOBY DICK REHEARSED"

Staten Island OutLOUD presents a stage reading of a rarely-performed play by the legendary Orson Welles, directed by Vincent Vok. With John Bostrom, Thomas Fucaloro, Ritty Mahoney, J. Keith McCauley, Gary Moore, Rona Solomon, Ken Tirado and Vincent Vok.
This is a stage reading of an unusual, and little-known play by the legendary Orson Welles. First presented on Broadway in 1955, the original cast included a young Rod Steiger. It had a brief run; Welles filmed the performance but it was never released, and the film has been lost.
The play begins with actors milling around on a stage as audience members arrive and take their seats. Actors can be heard joking and gossiping and grousing about their director.
Suddenly the director appears, bounds up onto the stage and announces that they'll rehearse his new adaptation of Herman Melville's "Moby Dick".

"LIFE AFTER LOSS: HEALING PIECE BY PEACE"
AUTHOR: MARIE DELLAVENTURA
Blessed with a happy, carefree childhood, Maria Dellaventura had little idea of the pain and heartache she would one day come to know.
Just ten years after losing her young husband to a serious illness, she was hit head on with the sudden loss of her beautiful, thriving fifteen year old son. Her strong unwavering faith in God was the one thing that truly saved her and enabled her to rise above her worldly circumstances. At the age of fifty, Maria realized she needed to write a book to be able to share her inspiring story with the world.
As a Child of God, and the author of “Life After Loss: Healing Piece by Peace”, Maria is deeply passionate about making it easier for others to deal with life after the loss of a loved one. Her goal is to touch and enlighten the hearts of her readers, as she opens their eyes to the undeniable truth that nothing is ever impossible with God.
Maria currently resides in Staten Island, New York, with her two children, Daniel and Christina. She believes that no life is without meaning or purpose. In the midst of adversity, she has allowed the Lord to transform her over and over again. Only through His love and grace has she been able to heal moment by moment and piece by piece.
