ZEITGEIST-DAY: MOVIE
"THRIVE"
THRIVE is a film about the core patterns that engender and sustain life.
It is a wake up call to the extent to which power has been consolidated
and abused by an elite few, and it is an invitation to join in the brightest
possibilities that can be liberated when we think critically and take a stand
for liberty. In short, THRIVE is about real ways in which ordinary citizens
can actively shift the power structures blocking the free flow of energy that
enables all of life to thrive.
THRIVE is a true story
about our lives, and we have some deep work to do.
About ZEITGEIST DAY:
“Zeitgeist Day”, or ZDAY for short, is an annual, global event day which occurs in the middle of March, each year. The goal is to increase public awareness of the global sustainability movement called The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project. MORE INFO: the zeitgeist movement |

Founder of FOOD NOT BOMBS talks about the Consensus Training work he has been doing and more. Ideas from his book, On Conflict and Consensus, are staples of the democratic decision-making process as it's practiced in Occupy camps from the Bay Area to Baltimore. Similarly, the 1992 Food Not Bombs handbook, which Butler co-authored with fellow FNB co-founder Keith McHenry, provides a sort of blueprint for large-scale actions like Occupy, in which facilitators are challenged to synthesize wildly diverse groups of varying interests. http://thephoenix.com/boston/news/128671-ct-butler-is-back-on-the-front-lines/ |

MOVIE: "PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE"
Presented by Transportation Alternatives in celebration of Bike Month. Popcorn provided, BYO Bike! I haven't seen this great film in decades. Join us for the fun.
"Pee-wee Herman is not like the other boys. "I'm a loner... a rebel," he announces to his would-be girlfriend. He's a comic rebel without a pause. Inspired lunacy, PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE is one of the most inventive films in recent memory. This clever and wholly original work incorporates a wide variety of cinematic tools with a fresh and unique sense of style. Pee-wee Herman, a creation of writer-comedian Paul Reubens, is a great comic creation on a par with Chaplin's Little Tramp. Somewhat reminiscent of the most popular Jerry Lewis screen persona, Pee-wee is a magical, happy-go-lucky, occasionally mischievous little boy living in an adult body."

New York City
ANTI-FOLK SHOW
hosted by JJ HAYES
1) KIRK KELLY gets to headline this evening of Antifolk because he is one of the founding fathers/mothers of the Scene that brought you the likes of most of you who are getting this invite. Any scene that really has roots in the Lower East Side must of its nature have some connection to that labor movement of the 19th and 20th centuries that allowed enough people to have a decent wage and working and living conditions thereby allowing them to have descendants who would be us. Kirk Kelly is that spiritual connection. This guy means it, man! Or rather he means it Go Man Go Antifest.
2) PINELAWN EMPIRE --Kirk Kelly was at the beginning of the scene, Pinelawn Empire is one of the more recent incarnations of the hard and fast punk inspired acoustic singer/songwriter style to which the word "antifolk" at one time referred. I am reading a biography of Hank Williams because of Pinelawn Empire's "The Lonesome Death of Hank Williams" As I look at the picture of Hank Williams and look at Pinelawn Empire's lead singer/songwriter Joe Vetter, and back again I wonder if that what appears to be a certain visionary quality in the lyrics might after all be eyewitness reporting. One can detect a certain anger, and laughter, a certain knife edge of resentment that researchers speculate could be from the ACTUAL SOUL of the great songwriter. Isaac Gillespie sings "I Will Wreck Your Life". Pinelawn Empire has one song that takes that theme so far into hell I dare you to come listen to it. Also don't want to miss Crack Rock Candy Mountain.
3) J.J. HAYES -- Having lost the Staten Island Arts scene in a bitter divorce, J.J. Hayes has taken to returning occasionally for surreptitious visitation. He has been called "The Johnny Cash of Staten Island: an awesome dude with a black hole of a voice, only J.C. never wrote songs about Bin Laden, N.W.A., or The Buddha." (Beau Alessi of Robot Princess). He has also been called "someone who might be a psychopathic/sociopathic liar and deceiver." (Anonymous). Hey I report, you decide. His "Timothy McVeigh" is scheduled to appear on the upcoming compilation by Tommy Bones. J.J. is hoping it will become a singalong hit. |

KWAANZA CELEBRATIONS with "The Kwaanza Lady!
Janet G. Robinson, better known as the Kwanzaa Lady, tells about the holidays that celebrate the heritage of Africans and African-Americans.
The name "Kwanzaa" comes from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanzaa," which means "first fruits of the harvest."
There are 7 principles that correspond to the 7 days of Kwanzaa.
December 28th is the 3rd Day of Kwanzaa, honoring the 3rd principle, Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility). UJIMA teaches us that we must build the sustainable communities, societies and world we all want for ourselves and to pass on to the people yet to come. |
