This band selects jazz from the ‘30s and ‘40s, country and rockabilly tunes from the ‘50s, ‘60s, by artists like The Everly Brothers, Rick Nelson, Hank Williams and Elvis.   Our special guest will be JOAN CADDELL.

LITERARY:STORIES OutLOUD - Global & Local:  
    Staten Island OutLOUD presents readings of two short stories on male-female relations, by ALICE MUNROE, "master of the contemporary short story" & winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature, and by AVI GVILI, Staten Island teacher and author of Life & Love & the Like: Stories from the Everyday. With musical interludes by sound artist STVJNS DAUGHS.

BOOK: "Adorable Antics" Poetry for Children with author Victoria Berkhin.
   Picture show with read-aloud from this book by Victoria Berkhin. Reflections of life, nature, and wonder are portrayed in this book which was created to promote kindness and sensitivity.

CHARLEY BUCKLAND — is a multi‐dimensional creative performer who carries an Indigenous perspective from his Mohegan heritage. He is a bassist, singer/songwriter, classically trained trumpet player and flutist.
DONNA KELLY— drummer and percussionist. Donna has played in some of New York’s well known venues with many diffferent groups of various genres including jazz, rock, R&B and cabaret.
SONI MORENO — Native American singer, co founded and performed with Ulali, Theatre credits on Broadway include "Hair", “The Leaf People” “Bones” First Nations Opera in Alberta, Canada. Most receint, the production of "Smoke" at the Studio theatre,. Pershing Square Signature Center

POETRY THROUGH FILM
Thomas Fucaloro hosts a night of Staten Island poets on film. Each poet has filmed videos of their poems that they will be premiering here. And to keep things saucy they will also be performing a poem or two.

  MUSIC: MARC BLACK  an eclectic folk-rocker who deals with life, and all its social and political challenges…one song at a time.   His fingerstyle blues is reminiscent of Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’ Hopkins.  And his recent CD, Pictures of the Highway, reached #6 on the Folk DJ Chart.
   Noted for his “timeless songs, deep grooves and excellent playing”, as legendary folk artist, Happy Traum, put it, "Marc is a master…spreading the joy of music with story and song". One tune, No Fracking Way – recorded with John Sebastian and Eric Weissberg (of “Dueling Banjos” fame), and some 100 Woodstock, NY citizens — has been sung at rallies as far away as South Africa, Ireland and Australia.

   Staten Island author Ken Scudero reads excerpts from his dystopian science fiction thriller Missing Tomorrow while Staten Island's own Alternative Rock band Gem&Eye (YOUTUBE) plays a kaleidoscope of intergalactic rock songs from their upcoming EP in between readings.

MOVIE: "SYMPHONY OF THE SOIL"
   Andrew Blancero of the NYC Compost Project on Staten Island hosts this screening of an amazing new film from the director of the acclaimed film "THE FUTURE OF FOOD".
   Drawing from ancient knowledge and cutting edge science, Symphony of the Soil is an artistic exploration of the miraculous substance soil. By understanding the elaborate relationships and mutuality between soil, water, the atmosphere, plants and animals, we come to appreciate the complex and dynamic nature of this precious resource. The film also examines our human relationship with soil, the use and misuse of soil in agriculture, deforestation and development, and the latest scientific research on soil’s key role in ameliorating the most challenging environmental issues of our time. Filmed on four continents, featuring esteemed scientists and working farmers and ranchers, Symphony of the Soil is an intriguing presentation that highlights possibilities of healthy soil creating healthy plants creating healthy humans living on a healthy planet.

SI OUTLOUD: MUSIC & WORD: "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD"    Beth Gorrie hosts and coordinates readings and more from this classic novel by Harper Lee. We’ll read & discuss excerpts from the novel, together with texts concerning some of the flashpoints in the American civil rights movement that Mockingbird helped catalyze. For example, we’ll feature two new books about the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act in honor of its 50th anniversary.
    We’ll consider the 60th anniversaries of the death of Emmett Till, and of the U. S. Supreme Court’s historic school desegregation decision. We’ll also explore texts concerning the Scottsboro Boys, which partly inspired the courtroom chapter in “Mockingbird”. 
   MUSIC: Joan & Gary Moore, with special guest Jeannine Otis, will perform music of the American Civil Rights movement, which underscored key events that coincided with the publication of “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
