Your original expression performance must relate in some way to the theme, but that relationship can be anything you choose.

 Contact the event facilitator (below) and let them know generally what you will be doing, be it music, knitting demonstration, photo-collage picture show, shamanic dance ritual, blindfolded-but-guided exploration poetry, talking animals, or backwards video-loop. (SI TRASH) returns! Wildly popular open mic series founded in 1995 that showcased comedy, music, poetry, and the visual arts. Some of the people scheduled to appear are Lou Bardel,  Allan Douglass Coleman, J.J. Hayes, Life Underwater (Jamie and  Shane), Gary and Joan Moore, Nanci Richards, Marguerite Maria Rivas, and Wil Wynn.
    Sign up for the limited open mic spots will begin a half hour before show time. Come enjoy and participate.

   Agustin (Argentina) and Alice Sophia (USA) Torres will delight us with Agustin’s original compositions and well known songs in Spanish and English that bridge the gap between the two cultures and bring the mystical warmth of South America to our northern lands.
    Their music is dedicated to the Healing Colombia Foundation, a non profit that provides assistance to internal refugees, displaced by violence in Colombia.    www.healingcolombia.org

  MUSIC: VANESSA CRONAN folk artist with a wonderful voice plays original songs in a distinctive style.

 MUSIC: Berlin by Nite: Joy Ryder with Marianne Enzensberger and PVC
    Berlin's first punk band, PVC, heavily influenced by Stockhausen and Can as well as Gene Vincent, will be performing one of a handful of gigs in the USA at ETG Cafe. A rare nite of sonic art from the formerly walled city.In addition, a reading by Berlin artist, Marianne Enzensberger from her book "Hymns of a Slut" a conversation with the Velvet Underground's Berlin frontlady and Warhol Superstar, Nico.
Joy Ryder will perform some of her songs from her Berlin days, including her hit "Sehnsucht Nach Allem"

MUSIC: THE HUMANS Psychedelic pop-folk duo with influences from Simon & Garfunkel to The Stone Roses. Identical twin brothers, labeled one of timeout ny's top 10 acts, the humans have played all over the world and been featured on mtv, vh-1,late night with conan o,brien, and various ctvs etc...

ACOUSTIC MUSIC GATHERING: S.I.A.M.S. 1st meeting of the new Staten Island Acoustic Music Society (SIAMS).  All welcome.  Bring your instrument.  Acoustic musicians of Staten Island and beyond gather like birds to enjoy the magic of songs played en mass. Controversial syndicated political cartoonist Ted Rall will show and discuss his editorial cartoons, which have appeared in The New York Times, Village Voice, Time Magazine, and hundreds of other publications. ART RECEPTION: PHIL SANDERS
    Phil Sanders is a digital artist ...and educator who has been creating digital images and interactive environments for 30 years.
    Come and celebrate this exhibit of digital photographs and panoramic prints, including images from the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, Staten Island Ferry, and other New York scenes. The works by Philip Sanders and other artists, are based in part on digital photography workshops at the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan.
    This project, including workshops and exhibition, is made possible by a DCA Premiere Grant from the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Additional support provided by the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, the College of New Jersey, and ETG Book Cafe.

"PHONEME RECOVERY UNIT"
Jazz orchestra makes waves at ETG. Ethnomusicologist ZUMMO, has conducted his awesome compositions at many venues in NYC and the wider world, but this is his first orchestra piece to be performed on the ETG Neighborhood Stage. Don't miss it!

PHONEME RECOVERY UNIT explores meaning, sounds, and rhythm creating an audible experience similar to the soundtrack you hear in your mind when you read a book.

Peter Zummo, trombone; Ernie Brooks, bass guitar; Mustafa Ahmed, percussion; Yvette Perez, keyboard and voice; Bill Ruyle, hammer dulcimer and percussion; Danny Tunick, vibraphone and percussion

Peter Zummo has been composing for solo tombone and ensemble since 1967. He has performed and produced this body of work worldwide. Critics and colleagues describe him as an important exponent of the American contemporary classical tradition. His compositions include influences of the minimal, jazz, world music, and rock styles. Zummo has devised pioneering ensembles and new instrumental techniques for trombone, valve trombone, dijeridu, euphonium, synthesizer and other electronic instruments, and voice.

ZUMMO has performed and recorded the work of many other major contemporary, jazz, popular, and classical composers in New York City, around the United States, and in Europe, including Downtown Ensemble, ModernWorks Ensemble; David Behrman, Jacques Bekaert, Barbara Benary, Earle Brown, Rhys Chatham, Anthony Coleman, Nick Didkovsky, Dan Froot, Jon Gibson, Daniel Goode, Peter Gordon, Steven Hall, Tom Hamilton, William Hellermann, Dick Higgins, Guy Klucevsek, Joan LaBarbara, Steve Lacy, Annea Lockwood, Frank London, Alvin Lucier, Jon Lurie, Jackson MacLow,Christopher McIntyre; David Mahler, Ron Nagorcka, Phill Niblock, Yvette Perez, Johnny Reinhard, Arthur Russell, Bill Ruyle, Elizabeth Swados, Yasunao Tone, Lenore Von Stein and Yoshi Wada.
Phoneme Recovery Unit is one of a series of four concerts in the 2009 Staten Island Rocks series, produced by The Loris Bend Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The series is made possible in part by a Staten Island Creative Communities Grant from the Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island, with public funding from the New York State Council on the Arts.

THIS JUST IN : Viva DeConcini will not be able to make the show tonight, but 2 amazing women will be there with Mary in her stead: Terry Dame and Susanne Hassenstein on saxophone and guitar. And thats not all, the incredible kachapitar will also be making an appearance at some point in the evening.

   Trish and Christoph will be performing as Victory Revolt with special guest mister Mark Davis. Christoph will temporarily slip into the role of his new found alter ego, Borough Hall adviser and confidence man Tony Tropicana, outlaying his personal vision of a total North Shore makeover. After the first political analysis, they will play some old songs and a brand new one, about a man from Rosebank with a very long hose.
   You will also get a chance to buy our timeless Christmas CD and tacky Staten Island greeting cards.

Documentary Screening and SEED SHARING Event
   "Growing Food on Staten Island" is a story about gardeners and the food they grow. Gardeners from diverse backgrounds share their experiences, insights and what drives them to cultivate their land in NYC's smallest borough.
   Audience members are encouraged to bring seeds, locally grown produce or anything garden related( your knowledge is priceless!) to share and exchange after the film.

This documentary was made possible (in part) by a 2009 JP Morgan Chase Arts in Our Communities grant.
